REVEALED: 7 Myths That Claim To Prevent Sagging Breasts Busted By Experts

From petit and pert boobs to voluptuous assets, breasts come in all shapes and sizes. And as women, chances are, we want what we haven’t got. But when it comes to matters of the bust, there is something all of the female species can agree upon… sagging is a firm no no. And in the quest to achieve the perkiest chest, there are few measures women will not take to achieve their goal.

But, with age, the shape and proportion of a woman’s bust is likely to change.
Over time, the effects of gravity mean they will lose their elasticity, perkiness and youthful appearance, often resulting in insecurities. An expert has busted the myths women have believed over the years that claim to prevent sagging breasts.

MYTH 1: CHEST EXERCISES AND PUSH-UPS PROMOTE PERKINESS

Yes, putting yourself through a gruelling push-up routine regularly will work out the pectoral muscles. And, while the exercises can help promote a perkier bust over time, no exercise can directly tackle the issue of sagging breasts. This is because they (breasts) are purely made up of fat tissue. The firmness of the breasts is related to the skin quality and the size of the mammary gland. Women will experience a deterioration of these two physical characteristics as they age, because the skin will become less elastic and the size of the gland will decrease.

MYTH 2: WEARING A BRA IN BED PREVENTS SAGGING

This is a false misconception! Wearing a bra can help to achieve the immediate desired shape and look but, once it’s removed, breasts will return to their natural position. Wearing a bra can even aggravate the saggy effect as its wire support works against gravity, weakening the breast’s natural ability to self-lift.

MYTH 3: SPLASHING WATER ON YOUR BREASTS WILL KEEP THEM FIRM

There is a common misbelief that splashing cold water on the breasts could cause the tissue to shrink, which will lift the boobs, contributing to a perkier shape. However, this remedy will only serve to increase the skin’s elasticity but won’t help to firm this body part.

MYTH 4: WEARING A LARGER BRA WILL CAUSE SAGGING

Opting for a large bra can help to create a fuller looking cup size and there is no scientific evidence to suggest that wearing a bra that is too big for you would contribute to sagging breasts. But, I would advise that women wear lingerie to fit their natural shape to ensure they are comfortable.

MYTH 5: RUNNING CAN HELP PREVENT SAGGING

Exercise is always recommended because it contributes to a healthier lifestyle.
However, when training, women should wear supportive resistance bras to counteract the sagging effect, advises the cosmetic surgeon.

MYTH 6: CHEST EXERCISES WILL MAKE YOUR BREASTS SMALLER

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that chest exercises can reduce the size of the breasts. Training can help with weight loss and, as a consequence, can reduce any excessive fat tissue around this area, but the amount depends on each woman’s metabolism and genetics.

MYTH 7: THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT SAGGING BOOBS

This is not true. If you are healthy, eat well, exercise and avoid excessive exposure to UV rays and smoking, this will play a significant role in maintaining the quality of your skin. Yo-yo dieting can also have a detrimental effect on the breast area because it will cause skin to loosen and will create stretch marks which are difficult to remove. Applying creams and lotions, which can improve the skin’s complexion and prevent its ageing, is also helpful.
