Diego Maradona Unveiled At New Club, Brest In A Tank
Belarusian side Dinamo Brest has appointed Diego Maradona as their chairman and guess what? The Argentine football legend opted to be unveiled in a military-esque tank. Hello!!!!! This is classic Maradona, a man who isn’t short of controversy.
From being banned from football in 1994 due to drug use to showing his middle finger to Nigerian fans to losing his bonus as a FIFA ambassador, just name them……
Diego Maradona is one heck of a football legend……a purely entertaining and controversial legend whose actions and inactions are always bound to hit the news headlines.
In the Russia 2018 World Cup, he was paid by FIFA to be at matches as part of the legends directive and was constantly being captured by the television cameras as he swung a t-shirt over his head, lifted up a banner of his own face and flipped the bird at Nigerian fans.
Dinamo Brest play in the Belarus Premier League and finished last 4th last season. The club got new investors two years ago from the UAE at a time where they were in financial crisis.
Since the new investors took over, they’ve won 2 domestic cups and now seek to gain some international recognition with the recruitment of Diego Maradona as the club’s chairman. There are even plans by Brest to build a stadium with a seating capacity of 30,000.
Viktor Radkov, Brest’s director of development said at Maradona’s unveiling “given the fact that boss Diego will live in Brest, I think people will come from all over the world to watch the game”.
