Nigeria’s U-20 women side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Germany.
In the first half, Nigeria held their nerves defensively as they kept the Germans at bay. The Nigerians managed only a single shot on goal during the entire first half and had to endure wave after wave of German pressure.
Sanders Stefanie slotted in the only goal in the 69th minute from close range when goalkeeper Nnadozie Chiamaka fumbled a corner kick.
After the goal, the Nigerians came out of their defensive shell but tried as they could, they weren’t able to find the equalizer and were very unlucky to hit the bar.
The defeat has left many football fans wondering if the African representatives in the U-20 WWC [Ghana and Nigeria] will fail to deliver, just like we saw of the African sides in the just ended FIFA Men’s World Cup.
These are really trying times for African football.
