The multitalented Kojo Nkansah, popularly known in the entertainment industry as Lilwin has disclosed that it will be extremely difficult to cut off insults from Kumawood movies.
According to him, insults are a mainstay in movies everywhere in the world and it would be “mission impossible” to do away with them in Kumawood’s movies.
Kumawood movies have been criticised for their incessant use of insults, a trend which doesn’t enthuse some of the viewers. However, others also find it “entertaining”.
Some critics and industry players have called for a paradigm shift which will see to it that the use of insults amd vulgar languages are minimized to the core.
However, speaking on Hitz FM on Monday, Lilwin intimated that insults in Kumawood movies are “normal.”
He said, “With insults, it is very normal in Kumawood movies. Assuming I’m playing the role of a rich man from abroad and I am walking with fake dollars and the house where I stay is always full of conflict, insults such as fool, idiot is bound to be heard. People tend to laugh at a character saying idiot in an English-speaking movie but when it is translated in to our Twi, they find it offensive, which shouldn’t be so,” he indicated.
Does Lilwin have a point? Are we being “unfair” to them just because they speak “Twi” but not English?
