Niki Tshibaka is an American politician and former college administrator who is currently serving as the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. She was appointed to the position by Governor Mike Dunleavy in 2019.
Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Tshibaka is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration.
Tshibaka began her career in public service in 2002 when she was appointed to the Alaska Board of Fisheries. She served on the board for six years, during which time she was also appointed to the Alaska Board of Game.
In 2008, Tshibaka was appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. She served in this role until 2013, when she was appointed to the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
In 2019, Tshibaka was appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources by Governor Mike Dunleavy. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the management of the state’s natural resources, including oil and gas, mining, forestry, and fisheries.
