Tim Finchem is an American businessman and former Commissioner of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour. He served as the Commissioner of the PGA Tour from 1994 to 2016. During his tenure, he was responsible for the growth of the PGA Tour and the development of the FedEx Cup.
Tim Finchem was born on August 8, 1949, in San Diego, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. After college, he worked as a lawyer in San Diego before joining the PGA Tour in 1989.
Finchem was appointed Commissioner of the PGA Tour in 1994. During his tenure, he was responsible for the growth of the PGA Tour and the development of the FedEx Cup. He also oversaw the introduction of the World Golf Championships, the PGA Tour Playoffs, and the PGA Tour Champions.
