Late dancehall diva, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng popularly known as Ebony Reigns revealed in an exclusive interview with Hitz Fm’s Andy Dosty that she sees herself as her own competition and pays less attention to other dancehall acts in the country.
As monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, Andy Dosty played a never heard before interview he had with the late songstress on Daybreak Hitz on Thursday to remember the first year since the singer passed on.
Ebony Reigns lost her life in a gory car accident in the Brong-Ahafo region whiles returning to Accra after she had visited her mother. She lost her life together with her friend and a military person believed to be her security detail, leaving only the driver of the ford vehicle to survive.
In the said interview, Ebony told Andy Dosty that she always wants to do better than she is doing and cares less about the other acts around her. “Trust me, the only competition I see is myself because I always want to do better than I am doing. I don’t really pay attention to the other artists. I always want to do better than me”
The dance-hall diva swayed in on the feud between Kaakie and Mzvee about who was the dance-hall queen. She explained that to her, she thinks the title is an open one which can be taken by anyone because there hasn’t been an official declaration on who was the dance-hall queen. “the thing is either of them can take their dance-hall title but if I do dance-hall and I slay at it, I can call myself the dance-hall queen or a king if I think am better than the men. If either of them think they slay at dance-hall and they want to call themselves dance-hall queens, cool but nobody has officially been announced as the dance-hall queen of Ghana. I give it to Kaakie though.”
Ebony opened up on her personal relationship with her father, Starboy Kwarteng. She described her dad as her best friend she can openly talk about everything to. “My dad is like my best friend, my everything. He’s super funky! He told me everything I needed to know about sex and men”. She added that her dad was doing that her and her siblings so that they feel free around him. “My dad built a relationship with us so we don’t hide anything from him. I call my dad by his first name”
The late songstress would have loved to collaborate with Cynthia Morgan in Nigeria, as she disclosed to Andy Dosty that she idolizes the Nigerian musician and loved her for what she stands for. “Cynthia Morgan is my role model. I will love to work with her. I see her as my replica. Me and her are so alike. I haven’t met her but I love her works”.
Describing her style of music, she said she fuses a lot of Cynthia Morgan and Rihanna in her music, but does has a soft spot for Adele too. “I have the Cynthia Morgan/Rihanna side of my music life. Most at times the songs I write are from the Adele side of my life.”
