Gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has disclosed she was once detained at the hospital for her inability to pay GHS70 after she was operated upon during child birth.

Recounting her ordeal before becoming a hit gospel musician, the Edin Jesus hit maker said life was difficult for her and her husband but she had no regret heeding the call of God to do His work.

“My husband and I couldn’t afford to pay GHS70 after I was operated on during child birth. Because of cash-and-carry I was detained in a hospital for a week,” she told Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra100.5FM.

“The day I was released, after we managed to pay [the bill], the sutures came off and I couldn’t afford to go back to the hospital for fresh stitches, so I went home and couldn’t walk straight…for six months.

“Through it all God made a way. I thought I would remain that way for life but glory be to God who had pity on me and rescued me.”

Ohemaa Mercy encouraged others to trust and believe in the power of God to transform their challenges into blessings.

She disclosed she had to leave teaching, which was her passion, in heeding the voice of God to sing, something she had not regretted doing.

The multiple award-winning musician entered the Ghana gospel music industry in 2004 with the hit song Adamfo Papa, which enjoyed massive airplay. She has five albums to her credit and is known for hit songs like Wob?y? K?se, ?b?y? Ama Wo, Wofiri Mu, among others.
