Promising Ghanaian Highlife musician, Yaw Stone, has disclosed that he once refused to speak to a local radio station because the station was playing a Nigerian song at the time they called him to speak on air.

Yaw Stone’s concern comes at a time some GH artists are on the neck of local radio stations – pleading and compelling the stations to give more airplay to local content – instead of the current premium given to Nigerian contents.

Sharing how he registered his spleen at a local radio station, Yaw said, “I remember a certain presenter called me and wanted to interview me via mobile phone and I realized he was playing a Nigerian song at the background whiles talking to me so I asked, do you even have any of my songs? He was fumbling so I realized that the interview was irrelevant.”

Ending, he said, “It’s about time Ghana media gives respect to Ghana artistes, some of them sits on radio and play sweeps of foreign songs but when they want to cover a content, they call a Ghanaian artistes to interview, how shameful it is.”

Then Lee Stone, winner of the sixth edition of TV3 Mentor, Yaw Stone, real name Godwin Boakye Yiadom, once shared his hustle after the reality show. “After Mentor it is just like a student after school. You have to face the world now all by yourself, so I think it is time for me to take over the Ghanaian music industry by way of making supper hits.

“That is even one of the reasons I had to change the name, but it is my prayers that Ghanaians will accept me and support me in anything I do though I know that the Ghanaian industry has been very kind to me.”
