Dark Suburb, Ghana’s first alternative rock band, has set off to Lagos, Nigeria, to participate in the All Africa Music Awards where they have been nominated for two awards: Best African Group and Best in African Rock.
The nomination is yet another great recognition for the band, having, earlier this year, emerged winners of the unsung competition of thenVodafone Ghana Music Awards 2015. To think that the band was launched in February this year and have since chalked such significant heights, is only indicative of how far they intend to go.
Dark Suburb have been nominated among some heavyweights in the African musicscene. For Best African Group, they are competing with the likes of Nigerian power duo, P-Sqaure; Kenyan Sensation, Sauti Sol; and Ghana’s legends, VVIP. The band’s hit song, I Dey Feel You Die, is competing for Best in African Rock Song with other songs from across the continent, including a song from their own acclaimed girlfriend Noella Wiyaala, with whom they recently collaborated on the single, MAMA.
Dark Suburb will no doubt be expecting to bag the awards and have intimated that upon their return, they will reveal some grand plans they’ve been working on for the band. The Awards Ceremony is taking place this weekends at the plush Eko Hotel and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos and the band have been billed to deliver an electricperformance for patrons.
