From current happenings in Ghana, the assertion that laws only apply to the poor and needy seems to gain credence as the days roll by. From my “fickle” point of view, I know that laws aren’t supposed to only protect lives and property but that when put in place to pass judgements, such judgements must appeal to the public (not including the squeamish and ill-informed).
When the Assin Fosu district court sentenced 23-year Isaac Opare to 14 years imprisonment, it wasn’t strange that the judgement was met with uproar from some public figures. Isaac’s crime was stealing a 14 inch flat screen television worth 250 cedis!
Below are some reactions from social media users:
John Dumelo advised via a tweet that it’s time such offenders of “petty” crimes are made to engage in community service.
Popular Comedian, DKB also had his say.
What do you think?
