John Flannery is an American businessman and the former CEO of General Electric. He was appointed to the position in August 2017 and served until October 2018. He was the first outsider to lead the company in its 125-year history.
Early Life and Education
John Flannery was born in 1962 in New York City. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. He then went on to earn an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Career
Flannery began his career at GE in 1987 as a financial analyst. He then moved up the ranks, eventually becoming the head of GE Healthcare in 2014. In 2017, he was appointed CEO of General Electric.
During his tenure, Flannery implemented a number of cost-cutting measures, including the sale of GE’s lighting business and the closure of several factories. He also oversaw the company’s move to Boston.
In October 2018, Flannery was replaced as CEO by Larry Culp.
