If you sell your sickness, you’ll get the best medicine and that is exactly what veteran actor William Addo did. The actor who was in desperate need of the whopping sum to rescue his ailing sight, resorted to the media to solicit for funds. Kindhearted Ghanaians particularly listeners of Starr FM mobilized over Gh¢5,000 within 30 minutes for the actor to undergo his much needed eye surgery.
His touching story came up during the newspaper review segment of the Morning Starr on Starr FM which instantly moved a group called the Great Democrats to call into the show to salvage the situation. They made a cash donation of Gh¢5000, three cartons of Milo and five cartons of milk to Mr. Addo.
Other listeners inundated the phone lines of Starr FM afterwards with pledges and made cash donations via mobile money.
“I have to do a surgery on my eye,” Addo narrated. “My vision is very blur. Doctors diagnosed that it is a combination of glaucoma and cataract and I need to be operated upon otherwise it’s going to cause a fracture.”
He was very grateful to Starr FM and its listeners for coming to his aid. The host of the Morning Starr Nii Arday Clegg and his co-newspaper review presenters Kwame Danso Acheampong and Nana Aba Anamoah also pledged to support the surgery. The CEO of EIB Network – owners of Starr FM – Kwabena Anokyi Adisi aka Bola Ray – has also pledged an undisclosed amount.
Thankfully, the actor’s failing eyesight can now be rescued.
