Arsenal’s highest-paid player Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to express how exciting he is about with a Ghanaian youth club that was renamed after him. This article is brought to you in collaboration with John Matthews, editor of the betslip section of FootballPredictions.com, and has some extra insights on this subject.
The ex-German international’s post on the Social media saw a bunch of kids putting on Arsenal jerseys, with Ozil’s name inscribed at the back of every of the shirt. And with the kids is Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut.
The Gunners’ playmaker wrote on Twitter on Tuesday; “Abiriw Ozil Football Club. Nice to have a sports club named after me in the Eastern Regional town of Abiriw in Ghana. Glad to see you all smiling in the @arsenal & #M1Ö shirts. #YaGunnersYa,”
Regarding the meeting with the Ghanaian club, only a little information is known as reports claims that Ozil had his agent, who was on a two-day working trip to the African country, offered 80 signed jersey to Young Boys FC, which is a youth club in the Eastern side of the town of Abiriw. And in return, the town-based club was them renamed to Abiriw Ozil FC as a sign of gratitude.
Speaking after the meeting, Sogut said to Ghana Guardian via Goal: “I’m a deliverer of his message, I’m here for him [Ozil] because he can’t be here so I’m a messenger for him. He gave me his word to do this with Daniel [Akowuah] together.
“So we are here to deliver his message, to share with the kids, the young ones, give them vision and dreams to follow them, work hard and hopefully achieve them.”
The details were not revealed to the public, but since a meeting was involved, we could also assume that a contract was signed between both parties.
Since the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, Mesut Ozil was seen to be having a difficult run of performances as he was dropped for a few games. He was reported to be out of favour from the then-manager Unai Emery, who has previously stated that the former German playmaker does not fit into his team.
Right after the departure of Emery from the Emirates Stadium, Ozil, as expected, immediately regains his spot in the club’s starting lineup under interim manager Freddie Ljungberg, whose first match in charge ended in a 2-1 loss against Brighton.
However, Mesut Ozil continues his playmaking role as a no 10 in their next Premier League match against West Ham, which they won by 3-1. Ozil performance during the match was exactly what the fans had been expecting from him all season.
The Gooners are facing Man City in their next Premier League game in their Emirates Stadium which is highlighted as bet of the day by experts of the industry. A difficult game taking the current form in note of the London club.
