Rwanda’s outstanding President, Paul Kagame on Friday, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Kigali Arena, which has a holding capacity of 10, 000 spectators.
It is located next to Amahoro National Stadium.
The Kigali Sports Arena is a multi-purpose facility that will be used to host indoor games, but can also host conferences, exhibitions and concerts.
The arena was constructed by Summa Company from Turkey and was completed within a mind boggling duration of 6 months.
President Kagame urged Rwandans to take advantage of the newly-built facility to train and host both national and international competitions.
He said, “This arena is not just a decoration to be visited on Christmas and New Year. It was built to host the best basketball players of Rwanda and Africa, for them to train, play and win here”.
President Kagame was grateful to Masai Ujiri the President of the Toronto Raptors in the U.S’ National Basketball Association whom he acknowledged for giving him the idea to construct the magnificent edifice.
The arena will complement the Kigali Convention Centre in hosting meetings within Kigali hence giving Rwanda an advantage when it comes to hosting International Conferences.
