Nigerian-Ghanaian stand-up comedian singer and actress, Jacinta Asi Ocansey, has questioned why the money being budgeted for the 2021 population census more than the number of people in Ghana.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has scheduled the 2021 Population and Housing Census for Sunday, June 27, 2021. The census was expected to take place in 2020 but had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier, The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta had disclosed that the 2021 population and housing census will cost the country GHS521 million. He said the amount will cover logistics and remuneration of personnel involved in the census.
In reaction to the news, the popular comedienne quizzed why the money being used to count the people was more than them.
She said;
I saw in the news this evening that the Minister said that the 2021 population census is going to cost us 521 million Ghana cedis. I don’t understand why the money that we’re going to use to count us will be more than us. According to Google, we’re just 31 million people — so we’re going to use 521 million to count 31 million people
She said sarcastically.
