WC2006: Richard Kingson Details How His Wife Prevented Him From Accepting A $300,000 Bribe

  • Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Kingson has revealed that bar the intervention of his patriotic wife, Mrs. Adelaide Tawiah, he could have accepted a $300,000 bribe which would have aided the Czech Republic to beat Ghana during the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The former Blackpool F.C goalee revealed that his wife threatened to divorce him if he accepted a bribe to influence the Czech Republic vs Ghana game.
  • According to Kingson, he was introduced to some foreign nationals by a Ghanaian businessman. He said that the foreign nationals offered him the $300,000 bribe in order to facilitate Czech Republic’s win over Ghana at the 2006 World Cup.
  • Kingson said that he was confused and so he decided to seek the counsel of his wife. He revealed that his wife threatened to divorce him if he accepted the offer. Kingson told Max TV: We had lost our first match to Italy and needed to win our second game against the Czech Republic. Before the game a Ghanaian businessman called me; we met and he led me to some people who offered me $300,000 just to concede two goals.
  • However, Ghana put up a flamboyant performance and defeated the Czechs by 2-0. Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari scored the goals.
