The World Health Organisation, the UN office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and UN Women Issued a joint statement Wednesday calling on the governments, health professionals and communities to take steps to end the practice of “Virginity Testing”

After a comprehensive systematic review of “virginity testing,” the practice of examining women to determine whether vaginal intercourse has occurred, the UN has found that the examination has no merit or clinical indication.

THERE IS NO KNOWN EXAMINATION WHICH CAN PROVE A HISTORY OF VAGINAL INTERCOURSE.

The agencies then provided background on the history of virginity testing citing the use of force on adminstering virginity tests.

On review of the history and effect of virginity testing, the agencies cited six human rights that are being violated.

Privacy/Physical Integrity
Torture Free
Right of the child
Right to life
Discrimination
Health

Sometimes, it leads the children to commit suicide as a result of trauma, disgrace etc.
