A year on after being named in the United Soccer League (USL) All-league Team, Solomon Asante would have thought that he had done enough to merit a call-up to the Black Stars in order to participate in the AFCON.
The USL All-League team which was voted on by club management and a league-wide media panel that included representation from every USL market included the diminutive Ghanaian winger, Solomon Asante. Asante helped Phoenix Rising FC to an overall third place finish in the Western Conference. Asante also finished the season as the third player who created more chances, thus 98 chances created. He scored 14 goals and assisted 9, had a passing accuracy of 76.5% and won 90 fouls, while only conceding 24.
Despite the above resounding achievements, Ghanaian coach, Kwesi Appiah overlooked him for selection.
Didier Drogba took to Twitter to heap praises on Solomon Asante as the former described the latter as “the magician the Ghanaian national team forgot about”.
The Magician @Asante208 Ghana national team forgot about but thank God you’re one of us @PHXRisingFC ???????? https://t.co/R8gdEULCWl
