Tragic: Dessandra Thomas, 7, Killed Crossing A Highway While Texting Michigan Police For Help After An Accident
A 7-year old Michigan girl was struck and killed as she was texting the police for help after her drunk father crashed their car into an abandoned vehicle in suburban Detroit, dailymail.co.uk reports.
Lt. Mike Shaw, spokesman of Michigan State Police said that Dessandra sent text messages to the Romulus Police Department about her father’s accident before being struck by a vehicle on I-94, near Detroit Metropolitan Airport last Sunday. It is reported that she died on the spot.
Investigators say that after her father crushed the car, Dessandra mistakenly thought that her father was dead. She grabbed her backpack from the back seat, got out of the car, scaled a fence and went to call for help. She was unfortunately run over by another vehicle while crossing the freeway, reported The Detroit News.
Dessandra’s mum, Sandria Burts told Fox 2 that it took her a long wait of 20 years to conceive Dessandra after she was told by doctors that she could not bare children.
Burts described her daughter as a rising third-grader and described her as a ‘blessing’ to everyone who came into contact with her.
‘It’s a void that can never be filled’, Burts said of her loss.
Really sad, sad news.
