The wait for Ghana’s 5th AFCON trophy continues – thirty seven years after our last conquest in 1982. Following The Stars’ abysmal performance in the ongoing AFCON, many are at a loss on what needs to be done in order to end the trophy drought.
For The Stars’ recent failure, the handwriting had always been clear on the wall – Hon. Isaac Asiamah for whatever reason felt that excessive expenditure on The Stars will lead to success in the AFCON. Clearly, The Sports Minister forgot about what transpired in 2014, Brazil.
One thing is clear……Long term planning, not reckless expenditure is what leads to success. Spain and Germany’s World Cup victory in 2010 and 2014 respectively are testaments to the claim above.
Currently, there isn’t any road map on progression of football talents from the junior levels to the senior national team……….
Nana Kwaku Agyemang has opined that it will be a colossal mistake to invite many of our current players to represent The Black Stars. He further opined that we need footballers that want to wear the jersey for free and not many of these mercenaries who can’t deliver”.
It will be another one of those colossal mistakes to invite many of these players to represent Ghana. They have done their best and it is not good enough. We need footballers that want to wear the jersey for free and not many of these mercenaries who can’t deliver! pic.twitter.com/c4BYw5KtlB

Well, it is definitely a fallacy to think that the motivation these players need is solely financial. We must dispel such thoughts from their mindset. It is with pride and passion that we need to put on our national jersey…..any other benefit which comes from that must be secondary!
