We are in a political season and so it is largely expected that propagandists of the various political parties put their talent to work. And whiles it is expected that the major political parties involve themselves in an intellectual banter on how to ensure that Ghana is efficiently developed, sex scandals have rather dominated our political scene. Following a needless outburst by Kumawood actress and movie producer, Tracy Boakye, a resultant rebuttal by “sweet 16” Mzbel and an unwelcomed entry into the PAPA NU terrain by Gloria Kani, our political arena has been turned into a green field of sexual escapades.
WOW! What a way to build up to the upcoming elections. Issues which bother on the nation’s development have been swept under the carpet and have sadly been replaced with allegations and counter allegations of who is fvcking who. Here, we look at all the times Ghanaian politicians have been hit with sex related scandals:
Mahama Ayariga
In 2017, Mahama Ayariga, the former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central was suspected of being the man spotted in a sex tape released by a Chinese galamsey queen, Aisha Huang who at the time, was facing trial in Ghana for charges relating to illegal mining.
Though the face of the man involved in the sex with Huang did not show, many people suspected that it was the former minister.
However, Mr. Mahama Ayariga released a statement where he vehemently denied all the allegations.
Portions of the statement read;
I have become aware of the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing me engaged in a sexual intercourse with a lady of Asian origin. I categorically deny the mindless suggestion that I am the male actor in the video and all the inferences it draws.
Sammy Awuku
Again, in 2017, a bipolar patient and advocate Nana Abena Korkor Addo alleged that some well-respected journalists and politicians had had sex with her and “settled” her monies ranging from GH¢2000 to GH¢3,000 in return for the sexual satisfaction.
Abena Korkor mentioned the name of the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku as one of the politicians who quenched their sexual thirsts with a drink from her water bottle.
However, Mr. Awuku denied the allegations and further described the young lady as an imbalanced person who should not be taken seriously.
Dr. Richard Anane
In 2004, Dr. Richard Anane was rumored to have impregnated Miss. Alexandria Obrien when he attended an International AIDS Conference in the United States.
Giving details on the issue, Mr. Raymond Archer, the Editor-in-Chief of the Enquirer Newspaper told the Investigative Panel of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) that Dr. Richard Anane and Mrs. Alexandria Obrien turned their business relationship into a sexual affair which eventually led to the collapse of the company the latter worked for.
According to Mr. Archer, Mr. Anane met the lady during a visit to the United States where they entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to undertake a World Health Monitor Programme in Ghana. Mr. Archer further revealed that after the MOU which was aimed at helping to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Ghana was signed, Mr. Anane and Alexandria turned the business relationship into a love affair which led to the birth of a child known as Nicholas Anane and a subsequent collapse of the project because the directors of Alexandrias company withdrew their shareholdings in the project.
Furthermore, Miss Alexandria revealed in an interview on Radio Gold that during her affair with Dr. Anane, he transferred about $100,000 dollars into her account. However, after being investigated by CHRAJ, Dr. Anane was reappointed into office.
Albert Kan Dapaah
In January 2020, a video of the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah in a conversation with his alleged side chic hit and took the internet by storm. In the video, Kan Dapaah continuously spoke about how hell miss his lover. However, the funny part of the video was when the side chic continuously instructed the love-drunk National Security Minister to model for her in his pyjamas.
John Dramani Mahama
It all began when Tracy Boakye decided to fire some shots at Mzbel. In those shots, the now popular term, PAPA NU emerged. After Tracy and Mzbel dirtied themselves on social media, a friend of Tracy, Gloria Kani alleged that former President, John Dramani Mahama was the PAPA NU Tracy and Mzbel were fighting over. During yesterdays THE SEAT show on NET 2 TV, loud-mouthed MP, Kennedy Agyapong also alleged that John Mahama is the sugar daddy of Tracy and that the former President purchased a house worth $450,000 for the Kumawood actress and producer. However, a visibly angry Tracy rubbished the claims of Ken and Gloria and emphatically stated that she has not had an affair with John Mahama and that they should leave the former President alone.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (KON)
The Information Minister was at the receiving end after he used the term PAPA NU in parliament in reference to John Jinapor. The comment angered political activist, A Plus who alleged the following;
That KON chopped a Presidential advisors wife which led to the breaking of the aforementioned advisors home.
The KON chops more girls than PAPA NU.
KON used to visit his (A Plus) home with porno on a pen drive to watch on a projector because the former wanted to see everything very clearly.
John Agyekum Kuffour
In 2005, Ghana was thrown into a state of shock when Gizelle Yajzi, a one-time advisor and confidante of President Kuffour revealed in an interview with Joy FMs Komla Dumor that she was a sexual partner of President Kuffour for about a year.
Below are excerpts of the interview;
KD: Did you have an intimate relationship with the President (President Kuffour)
GY: Yes, I had.
KD: For how long did this relationship go on?
GY: For almost a year
Hehe. As the quest for power grows even stronger in the coming days, I guess you and I may have to prepare our ears and eyes for more of these scandals. or I dey lie?
