In Kenya: Man Whips His Child For Inability To Read Bible Verse

The Good Book

Residents of Manga in Nyamira County were left bemused after a man caned his son for allegedly failing to read the Bible.

The boy’s mum, Edinah Obwocha said her husband returned home and asked their son to read a Bible verse.
“My husband is always violent wherever our son who is in class 5 messes up. He attacked him when he failed to read a Bible verse before we took our supper”, she said.

Elvis Onyancha, a neighbor said that the boy run to him for refuge after the attack.

Area Nyumba Kumi official, James Omete said that parents should stop beating their kids because they could end up committing suicide. This is a statement which seems to suggest that you can beat your child so long as it wouldn’t lead to his/her death.

Omete called on parents to guide their children in life so that they can become good people in the society and should desist from beating them.
