#7 – Wayne Rooney ($23.4 Million)
Wayne Rooney was perhaps, at one point, the most recognizable face in soccer. It definitely wasn’t the prettiest face (oh, Beckham!) but it was recognizable.
He’s still earning a ton of money and recognition as a longtime member of Manchester United, though some will say he’s over the hill. But that’s all subjective in soccer, considering he hasn’t even reached the age of 30 yet! Soccer does have a way of making young men feel old.
To those that don’t follow the sport too closely, Rooney has been the icon of Manchester United soccer since the star power has been in his last name. Rooney has won the Goal of the Season Award a total of three times. Known for his exciting bicycle kick and hitting the right spots of the net, Rooney’s highlight reel might be one of the best ever.
